The Police in Budaka District, Eastern Region of Uganda have launched an investigation into murder following the untimely demise of a soldier from the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF), reportedly resulting from bar brawl.
The deceased soldier has been identified as Private Martin Mbayo, 23, who was on pass leave and hailed from Bulomi village, Nanjala Parish, Kameruka Sub-County, Iki-iki County, in Budaka District.
SP Immaculate Alaso Emily, the Police Spokesperson for Bukedi North Region told the press that the incident happened on July 18th, 2023, late in the night.
Private Martin Mbayo had visited a bar owned by Robert Tabiruka located in Nabugalo Trading Center, Kameruka Sub-County. It was alleged that an argument erupted between the soldier and the bar owner, leading to tragic consequences.
It’s from here that the deceased sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital before he was being transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital but unfortunately died in Iganga town before they reached Mulago on July 22nd 2023.
Maj. Isaac Oware, the third division UPDF unit spokesperson said that relatives of the deceased informed authorities at Bugema Barracks who rushed to usher in a helping hand, but couldn’t save his life.
