Two individuals have been apprehended by the police in connection with the vandalism of road signposts along the Matany-Kokeris Road.
According to Public Relations Officer MT. MOROTO region IP LONGOLE MIKE, the suspects, identified as Ongom David and Loyile Isaac, both residents of Longalom village in Matany Sub-county in Napak District, are currently being held at the Central Police Station in Napak.
The incident was reported by Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) staff who were conducting routine surveillance on July 5, 2023.
According to the report, the suspects used an axle blade to sever 14 road signposts along the Matany-Kokeris Road, subsequently selling them to scrap dealers.
A team of detectives and uniformed personnel visited the scene and meticulously documented and captured photographic evidence. Statements from relevant witnesses were also recorded to aid the ongoing investigation process.
All 14 road signposts were successfully recovered from the involved scrap dealers, and are now being held as crucial exhibits. The scrap dealers have been summoned to the CPS Napak for further interrogation.
