State House Health Monitoring Unit together with the police in Kamwenge district have apprehended four individuals for causing financial loss to the government and abuse of office.
The suspects include Dr Ivan Mujuni, Emmanuel Tumwebonire, Turikundembe Sowedi, Christopher Aliganyira, and David Kiiza.
The charges are related to the diversion of fuel meant for Rukunyu Hospital during the financial year 2019/2020. The suspects allegedly inflated vouchers, and car mileage, and provided false accountability.
Vincent Twesigye, the spokesperson for the West Rwenzori region police, confirmed the arrest and stated that the State House Health Monitoring Unit had conducted a forensic audit in the health department of the district from April to date, leading to the detention of the suspects.
The investigation carried out by the State House Health Monitoring Unit led to the arrest of several individuals over the first quarter on various charges, including neglect of duty and theft. For instance, two individuals were arraigned in court for stealing solar batteries from Bunoga Health Centre 3.
The police have taken the suspects into custody as investigations into the matter continue. The accused are expected to face charges of causing financial loss to the government and abuse of office.
