Anita Namakula, the second victim of the shooting by Lance Corporal David Katamugaya, a UPDF guard attached to the Kamuswaga of Kooki, has passed away at Nsambya hospital where she had been admitted. According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Namakula passed away at Nsambya hospital, and her body is to be conveyed to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem.
The shooting occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a local bar in Makindye division, Kampala. Lance Corporal Katamugaya allegedly shot at five people who were enjoying beer, killing one instantly and injuring four others. The UPDF soldier guarding the Kamuswaga had earlier warned that he would return and deal with the group, which he did 15 minutes later.
While the exact cause of the shooting is not yet known, reports suggest that it was a crime of passion. The UPDF officer was allegedly in a relationship with Namakula, and he accused the deceased, Aggrey Ampumuza, of also having an affair with her. When the Kamuswaga guard opened fire, Ampumuza was killed instantly.
Police found an AK47 rifle with 24 rounds of ammunition at the UPDF officer’s residence, but he had gone into hiding. The incident is still under investigation.
I wonder how necessary it was for Kamuswaga’s name is mixed up with this criminal act yet the soldier was on his own as an individual!! Should we also assume he was representing UPDF or was sent by Kamuswaga?
Am not a journalist nor an advocate of Kamuswaga but I think this kind of reporting partly diversionary and biased.
