A suspect plotting to kill his colleague was on Wednesday morning shot dead by police officers from Rubindi Police station as he threatened to injure them at Akatooma cell, Kagongi sub-county, Kibingo parish in Mbarara district with a panga for resisting arrest.
The Mbarara District Police commander SP Esther Kayema identified the deceased as Gerald Tibigarukwamu 45 years a resident of Akatooma cell in Kibingo parish, Kagongi sub-county in Mbarara district.
“It was established that the victim had threatened to kill one of the residents identified as Godwin Tumwine alias Kashaija with a panga on Tuesday 25,2023 at Akatooma cell in Mbarara district, “Kayema told journalists on July 26th.
She added.”The deceased has also been on the spot for being a violent citizen who has always threatened to kill fellow locals for demanding him unspecified amount of money”
Police reveal that incidents related to the shooting started developing on Wednesday at around 6 AM when Tibigarukwamu threatened to attack two armed police officers with a panga who had come to arrest him.
Godliva Beberireho the wife of the deceased told the press that her husband returned home on Tuesday, not in his usual ways and started threatening to kill her over unknown matters. She said that this prompted her to flee home on Tuesday at around 3 PM but she was surprised to receive news that her husband was shot dead in the wee hours of Wednesday morning as he attempted to injure policemen who had come to arrest him.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mbarara regional referral hospital for a postmortem report.
