The Nansana Police Division has made a significant breakthrough in addressing criminal activities within its jurisdiction. A targeted operation was conducted on June 16, 2023, based on intelligence information, leading to the arrest of individuals involved in a panga-wielding gang responsible for a series of robberies.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, during the operation, one suspect, Ssabagereka Julius, was apprehended after a stolen television was found in his possession. Following his interrogation, he provided crucial information leading to the arrest of additional suspects.
Among those detained are Isingoma Lwegaba alias Wasswa, Ddumba Faizo alias General Faizo, Muwonge Joseph, and Mutebe John. These individuals have been identified as key members of the criminal gang operating in Nansana Division and its neighbouring areas.
The investigations have revealed that this gang has been involved in various criminal activities, including the robbery of televisions, mobile phones, and cash. Their modus operandi involves monitoring individuals in bars and subsequently ambushing them on their way home. The recovered evidence includes two televisions, two pangas used in the robberies, and four suspected stolen mobile phones.
Luke Owoyesigyire also revealed that the gang is allegedly headed by Lukwago Abbu alias Abasi, who is still at large. The police are actively pursuing leads to locate and apprehend Abasi, as well as any other associates and promoters associated with this criminal network.
In response to these recent developments, the Nansana Police Division is taking immediate action to address the issue comprehensively. The police will conduct thorough interrogations of the arrested suspects to gather additional information on their criminal activities and potential collaborators. Furthermore, they will intensify investigations to recover any additional stolen items that may be in their possession.
