Moses Tumusiime, a 39-year-old man, has been sentenced to four months in prison by a court in Kampala for his fraudulent actions involving the sale of a chair.
Tumusiime approached Sharifah Nalubowa, owner of a furniture shop near the Mulago Roundabout, under false pretences, requesting a chair to sell to a buyer for money. However, once in possession of the chair, Tumusiime disappeared and turned off his phone.
Nalubowa reported the incident to the police, who managed to track down and arrest Tumusiime. It was later discovered that Tumusiime had given away the blue-coloured Sofa L chair as a gift to his in-laws during their introduction ceremony in Tororo.
Tumusiime pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him during the trial. Grade One Magistrate Kirya Martin delivered the verdict, sentencing Tumusiime to four months in prison, taking into account the two months Tumusiime had already spent on remand.
Tumusiime was also ordered to pay compensation amounting to Shs1 million, of which he has only managed to raise Shs300,000, leaving a balance of Shs700,000.
