Makerere University has announced that its 74th graduation ceremony will take place from January 8 to 12, 2024, according to KFM. Approximately 13,000 students are set to graduate in various disciplines during the week-long event.
University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, stated that the Senate plans to convene in October to finalize the graduation list.
He added that while students\’ marks and results are currently at the college level, most colleges have already held academic board meetings to approve them.
This marks the first time the institution will hold its graduation in January, following disruptions to the academic calendar caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Makerere conducted its 73rd graduation ceremony in February of this year. However, Prof. Nawangwe noted that the university is on track to return to normalcy by August next year.
In a recent announcement, the academic registrar\’s office shared that the new academic year for 2023/24 will begin on August 19, 2023, with orientation for incoming students. Teaching and learning are scheduled to start on August 26, coinciding with the arrival of continuing students for the new academic year.
Last month, the university released the list of government-sponsored students and is expected to release the list of privately sponsored students shortly. These students are all set to begin their studies next month. The academic registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, has informed all recipients of government sponsorship that they should collect their admission letters from their respective colleges.
