The Police in Sheema district have in custody the father of a two-year-old son and his second wife, the stepmother to the child for torturing the boy they grabbed from his mother.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson SSP Marcial Tumusiime, the suspects are Ninsiima Kennedy 25 a boda boda Rider and his wife Kyarisiima Modensi 27 both residents of Irashaje village, Nyakarama parish, Rugarama sub-county in the Sheema district.
The two are alleged to have been seriously beating Tokamanya Denis in his, the child Ninsiima fathered from another woman but brought him to live with his second wife.
It is believed that in 2020, Ninsiima cohabited with the mother of the victim, Olivia who hails from Ntungamo District, stayed together and separated in 2022 prompting the woman to go back to her parental home with her baby.
The father stopped sending support to the child, until April 2023 when he went, picked the child up and handed him over to the Stepmother who started treating the child harshly, beating him, and sometimes refusing him food until when a concerned citizen filmed a video of what was transpiring there.
SSP Tumusiime adds that after the video went viral on Social Media, Police in Sheema started investigations until it landed on the information of this incident. They immediately went to the scene where they discovered that the child can’t talk, walk, or crawl, was malnourished, stunted and had been locked in the house for some time.
The Victim was thereafter rescued, and taken to Kabwohe HC IV for examination on Pf3 and treatment, suspects who have other 3 children they look after well were arrested and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses.
The aggravated torture incident was registered at Sheema Central Police station under the file number CRB 538/2023 as inquiries are at hand and the Mother of the victim was informed to come to the hospital to take care of her malnourished child.
